Final Learning Reflection

What did you learn in this class?

From this course, I learned many topics.
- Global English
- ESL and EFL learning context
- English language in ASEAN context
- Classroom learning context
- ICT in classroom
- CLT
- 21st century skills

What did you find easy?

    For me, I think English language in ASEAN context
is easy lesson for me because English language in ASEAN context is very important in classroom in everyday and important for Thai context.

What did you find difficult?
       For me, I think all of topic that we learn is difficult because I have to read many articles and research that have many difficult vocabulary and some technical term that I have known before.

How did you solve the problem?

       My weakness is vocabulary skill. So, I try to discuss with my friend and try to search on dictionary online to find the difficult words and try to read by using only myself before using dictionary. Moreover, I try to prepare myself to read article and research before attend the class. I think the best way to improve myself by reading the article

What are your attitudes towards the lesson?

      In the beginning, I know that this subject is very difficult. I have to read many books, articles and researches, even if sometimes I very lazy. because this subject is very important for me in my teaching in the future. For the teacher, I am very happy to learn with Dr. Usa Noytim again. The teacher is very kind. The teacher makes me feel relax when I study in this class. Moreover, the teacher teaches us not only about the content but also how to be a good teacher in the future. In addition, teacher gives a opportunities for us to ask and express my idea.

Today, I learnt about Sociocultural Theory in many topics;

1. What is Sociocultural Theory?
#Sociocultural theory is an emerging theory in psychology that looks at the important contributions that society makes to individual development. This theory stresses the interaction between developing people and the culture in which they live. This theory suggests that human learning is largely a social process. By Kendra Cherry
2. Zone of proximal development
3. Scaffolding
       In education, scaffolding refers to a variety of instructional techniques used to move students progressively toward stronger understanding and, ultimately, greater independence in the learning process. The term itself offers the relevant descriptive metaphor: teachers provide successive levels of temporary support that help students reach higher levels of comprehension and skill acquisition that they would not be able to achieve without assistance. Like physical scaffolding, the supportive strategies are incrementally removed when they are no longer needed, and the teacher gradually shifts more responsibility over the learning process to the student.( http://edglossary.org/scaffolding/)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In the middle circle, representing the zone of proximal development, students cannot complete tasks unaided, but can complete them with guidance. The zone of proximal development, often abbreviated as ZPD, is the difference between what a learner can do without help and what he or she can do with help.

8th Learning Reflection

8th Learning Reflection

Today I learned about  the English teaching problems in Thailand and Thai teacher's problems.  In the beginning of the class, teacher asked students to share ideas about the problems of leaning in Thailand and how to solve the them. It found that there are many problem such as hard works of teacher, large class,  teacher not understand the curricula, students lacked of motivation in learning, etc. Nowadays, these problems are still and Thai Education can't solve the problems.

Then, teacher asked us to look at the model article about English teaching problem in Thailand "English Problems in Thailand and Thai Teacher Professional Development Needs". She assign us to make a group and study about it. From this research, my group found that English teaching problems have many factors for example the problems about teacher, students, curricular, textbook, assessment and other teaching support.

1. The problems involving teachers.

- teaching writing
- incorporating experiential learning into English classes.
- their own minimal use or exposure to English
- teaching listening and speaking
- using games and songs
2. The problems involving students
- The students have not more chance to practice English.
- The students not having enough practice in English their own.
- The students lack out knowledge and skill of English.
- The students lack out confidence to speak English.
- The students lack out patience to practice English.
- The students have the problems about writing.
- The students have the problems about listening and pronunciation.
- The students thing in Thai before translating to English.
3. The problems involving students curricula and textbooks - The impracticality for managing activities in the curricula. - The curricula having too much to cover. - Teacher doesn't understand the details of curricula. - Not appropriate with local condition. - Teacher lack of confidence in speaking English.

4. The problems involving assessment - assessment of listening-speaking skill.
5. The problems involving assessment The items that indicated a rather high degree of problems involved. - inadequate supplies of computer had a moderate.

Next, I had midterm test. We learned 08.30 a.m. - 10.0 a.m. It’s about what are implication in teaching English in the future. such as what is "Global English"? what is differences between ESL and EFL? What are the factors that affect in learning and teaching English? etc.

7th Learning Reflection

7th Learning Reflection

For this week, teacher described about  factors affecting of English teaching. From studying this topic, I learned that there are many factors affecting English Language Teaching ;

1. The factors about students, it can be divided into 3 factors

·                     For young children, they respond to see, hear and touch. They need of individual attention from teacher. Teacher has to provide the activities because they have short attention.
·                For adolescents, they like challenges so, teacher has to provide the activities to respond their need and improve creative thinking.
·                     For adult learners, they focus on the topic that they learn. They use their experiences to help in learning. They can control themselves in class. Teacher has to provide the activities about analyzing and make situation to solve the problems.

2. The factors about teachers;

·                     Teacher’s beliefs
·                     Teacher’s ability in using English
·                     Teacher’s method and styles
·                     Teacher’s use of teaching and learning material

3. The factors about learning environment;

·                     Learner beliefs
·                     Social expectations
·                     Cultural demands
·                     Family background
·                     Achievement
·                     Physical condition

4. The implication for English teacher;

·                     Teachers should make lesson materials relevant with the lesson for increasing student's interest.
·                     Teachers try to create variety of activities to give chances for students to improve their English skills.
·                     Teachers should have interesting teaching styles.
·                     Teachers need to give time for students to do communicative activities.
·                     Teachers must have skills for management in the classroom.
·                     Teachers should give instructions clearly.
·                     Teachers must improve themselves all the time.

Finally, I learned that being a good teacher we should aware about the problems in the classroom and the ways of solving the problem. I think that the most important thing of teaching is the teacher.

6th Learning Reflection

6th Learning Reflection

    Before we started the new lesson, teacher would like my friends to tell about the experiences of teaching when they lived in foreign land. Next, teacher assigned us to read about classroom learning context to analyze example of teaching of country; Malaysia, Mozambique, China about place, use of time, use of space, language data, resources, interactions and atmosphere. After that, teacher asked some students to present and summarize the ideas about teaching an English class of each country in front of class.

1. An English class in Malaysia

In my opinion, the students didn't have a chance to think or analyze about topic which teacher teach because teacher was a person who told the story only. Teacher should used the question to ask students to learn and think together.

2. An English class in Mozambique

For me, I liked this teaching most because the students had a chance to learn and practice their 4 skills together. The teacher wanted students to think their ideas and it's learning whole class style, but disadvantage is noisy.

3. An English class in China

In my opinion, I didn't like this teaching because teacher should had activity for students to active in class. I think this teaching is teacher center or control class. It may be made students to be bored with learning.

Then, teacher asked us about the important of factors affecting ELT and Learning by drawing the mind mapping. When we finished,she asked us to share express idea with friends.

For me, I this context made me to think a lot about stages of teaching or learning style in class and I enjoyed to thing or analyze about examples of teaching of each country.
